  • These seizures have focal origin within the brain but may then spread to become generalised seizures.
  • If a partial seizure spreads from one hemisphere to the other side of the brain, this will give rise to a secondarily generalised seizure.
  • Generalised seizures, particularly myoclonic and tonic-clonic, are the most common type found in reflex epilepsy, though other types of seizures may occur.
  • As is the case with all generalised seizures, the patient is not conscious during the event but the seizure is so brief that the person appears to remain fully conscious.
